1. Ensure the Search Box is Visible

Search bar in windows

If you can’t see the search box, you may have accidentally hidden it. To enable it:

  • Right-click on the taskbar (the bar at the bottom of your screen).
  • Hover your cursor over the option Search.
  • You’ll see three options: Hidden, Show search icon, and Show search box.
  • Select Show search box. This will display the search bar where you can type to search.

2. Using the Windows Key + S Shortcut

Even if the search box is hidden, you can still bring up the search interface by pressing the Windows key + S on your keyboard. This will activate the search bar, and you can start typing immediately.

3. Enable Cortana (Optional)

If you want more advanced search options, like voice search and suggestions, you can also enable Cortana. Cortana is integrated into the search function and provides more personalized search results. Here’s how to enable it:

  • Click on the search box or press Windows + S.
  • At the top of the search pane, you should see the Cortana icon (a circle with a blue dot). If it’s not enabled, click on Settings in the search bar and choose Cortana settings.
  • Enable Cortana if it’s not already enabled, and choose to allow voice commands and other features.

By enabling the search box or using Windows + S, you’ll have the ability to quickly type and search for apps, documents, settings, and even online results in Windows 10.
